For more than four decades, Mary Ellen Edmunds was an integral part of BYU Women’s Conference, becoming one of its most cherished and recognizable voices. She served as a yearly conference speaker, committee member, anniversary service chair, etiquette video personality, devoted supporter, and trusted friend to countless women who attended the conference through the years.
Known for her contagious humor, heartwarming laugh, and extraordinary gift for storytelling, Mary Ellen had a unique ability to make every person she encountered feel seen, loved, and important. Friends and attendees often described her as a “happifyer” — someone who brought light and encouragement wherever she went. Her famous reminder that “love is a verb” became more than just words; it became a reflection of the way she lived her life every single day.
Beyond her humor and warmth, Mary Ellen was deeply admired for her unwavering testimony and profound love for the Savior and His gospel.
